How the worksheet is laid out
Each line set is built from the following measurements (all values scale with the chosen letter-height setting):
| Line | Position (% of cell height) | Purpose |
|---|
The 4-line system (baseline, midline, top line, descender line) is used in most US primary-school handwriting curricula, including Zaner-Bloser and D'Nealian. Cell heights follow standard primary-ruled paper dimensions: extra-large ≈ 2.5 cm (1 in), large ≈ 1.9 cm (¾ in), medium ≈ 1.3 cm (½ in), small ≈ 0.95 cm (⅜ in). These match common primary-ruled notebook dimensions; always check your printer's actual output with a ruler.

Frequently Asked Questions
The generator supports three styles: Print (standard manuscript lettering used in most US schools), Cursive (connected script rendered with a flowing font), and D'Nealian/slanted print (the transitional style that bridges print and cursive). Select your style from the dropdown before printing.
The 4-line system uses a top line (ascender ceiling), midline (x-height top), baseline (where letters sit), and descender line (lower limit for g, j, p, q, y). This system is used in most US primary handwriting curricula. You can also choose 3-line, single-ruled, or no lines depending on the student's level.
Click "Print / Save PDF" and when the print dialog opens, choose "Save as PDF" (or "Microsoft Print to PDF" on Windows) as your printer destination. On Mac, use the PDF dropdown in the bottom-left of the print dialog.

Extra large (≈ 1 inch / 2.5 cm) is recommended for kindergarten. Large (≈ ¾ inch / 1.9 cm) suits grades 1–2. Medium (≈ ½ inch / 1.3 cm) works for grades 3–5. Small (≈ ⅜ inch / 0.95 cm) is appropriate for older students and adults. These are guidelines — adjust based on the individual learner.
